VISITING THE LIBRARY:

During Travel Times (no pass needed)

  • Students may visit the library in the morning beginning at 8:00 to checkout a book or print a document before class, but should not stay longer than necessary as no late passes will be given.  Students must be in class by 8:25.  
  • Library hours vary during lunch, depending on the librarian's class schedule for the day. Students may stop in during the first 10 minutes of their lunch period, on their way to lunch, to get a book or use a computer/printer.  Once students go to lunch, they need to stay in the lunch areas until released to their class.
  • Students should not attempt to visit the library between classes.The librarian may not be available and late passes will not be given.

During Class Periods

  • Students may visit during class to checkout a book or work on class assignments, but should not stay longer than 15 minutes for checkout or 30 minutes for classwork at a computer or table.  
  • Students need a signed pass from a teacher to use the library during class time.  
  • Students may be asked to come at a later time if the library is busy with large classes or no computers are available.

After School (3:40-4:00)

Students may visit the library after school to checkout books or work on classwork.  Loitering and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

Library may occasionally be closed after school without notice due to school business.

ABOUT THE LIBRARY:

Library Services

  • AISD students have access to books from their home campus and books and from other AISD campuses.  If you want a book we don't have at Bailey, you can request to borrow the book through interlibrary loan (ILL).
  • If you would like a book that is currently checked out, ask to place a hold so that you will be next in line for the book.
  • Research sources, including databases and print reference materials, are available to help you complete assigned research projects.  When using databases and any online sources, district policies regarding acceptable use must be followed.  See your student handbook for more information on the Acceptable Use Policy.

Checkout Policy

  •  Students may check out 2 books at a time, for 2 weeks.
  • Lost books must be paid for, but can be refunded if you find it during the same school year and return it in good condition.

Collection Development

This library will maintain a collection of books that:
  • support the curriculum needs of the campus,
  • appeal to the interests of young people in the middle grades,
  • provide access to information on a broad spectrum of topics, and
  • meet the learning and recreational needs of readers of various reading levels, abilities, cultures, and values.

Behavioral Expectations

  • Speak in a reasonable tone and volume
  • Be courteous and polite to all
  • Ask for help
  • Use resources and supplies responsibly
  • Walk calmly
  • Respect designated areas during class use
  • Use self-control

  • Challenge yourself - read more than you did last year

LIBRARY COMPUTERS:

Acceptable Use Policy

  • You are responsible for not sharing your district account password with others.
  • You will be held responsible at all times for the proper use of District technology resources, and the District may suspend or revoke your access if you violate the rules.
  • The account is to be used primarily for educational purposes, but some limited personal use is permitted.

Inappropriate Uses

  • Damaging electronic communication systems … disfiguring or altering equipment, or displaying lack of reasonable care in its use
  • Disabling or attempting to disable any Internet filtering device
  • Accessing sites not authorized under the District’s filtering policies
  • Encrypting communications to avoid security review
  • Using someone’s account without permission
  • Pretending to be someone else when posting, transmitting, or receiving messages
  • Attempting to read, delete, copy, modify, or interfere with another user’s electronic media
  • Using resources to engage in conduct that harasses or bullies others
  • Posting, transmitting, or accessing materials that are abusive, obscene, sexually oriented, threatening, harassing, damaging to another’s reputation, or illegal
  • Using inappropriate language such as swear words, vulgarity, ethnic or racial slurs, and any other inflammatory language
  • Posting or transmitting pictures of students without obtaining prior permission from all individuals depicted or from parents of depicted students who are under the age of 18
  • Violating others’ intellectual property rights, including downloading or using copyrighted information without permission from the copyright holder
  • Use of unlicensed software, or altering district installed software.
  • Posting or transmitting personal information about yourself or others, such as addresses and phone numbers

From AISD Acceptable Use Policy:
Any malicious attempt to harm or destroy District equipment or materials, data of another user of the District's system(s), or any of the agencies or other networks that are connected to the Internet is prohibited. Deliberate attempts to compromise, degrade, or disrupt system performance may be viewed as violations of District policies and administrative regulations and, possibly, as criminal activity under applicable state and federal laws.
